Acer is seeing its dreams going down the drain this year as the reports highlight the fact that they will be selling less than half of the Acer Iconia Tablets A500 they were planning to. The reason is that Apple’s iPad 2 is simply crushing the market and Samsung’s success with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is not helping either. As a result, Acer needs to do something to save what can be saved and upgrading their 10-inch slate to Android 3.1 is the best they could come up with. Much to their credit, the update comes on time, maybe even a little sooner than expected.
The pessimists who noticed the fact that the Acer Iconia Tablet A500 is not selling at the rate it was supposed to, will have a reason to rejoice, following this release. With less tablets on the market, Acer should find it easier to bring them up to date and to enhance the user experience, since they are not extremely please at the moment. Some experience awkward problems with the update, but it’s only fair to say that the upgrading session has just begun and there is plenty of room for some fine tuning.
For those who don’t own an Acer Iconia Tablet A500 but are intrigued by the update, it would be useful to know that it is overall, a good product. The Tegra 2 processor is fast and aided by the 1GB of DDR3 RAM will enable you to run all the Android games and applications smoothly. The battery life is less than stellar, with around seven hours of intense use, but the display is gorgeous and will bring forward some crispy images and bright colors. It’s most unlikely that the $50 difference will determine you to choose the Acer Iconia Tablet A500 over the competition if nothing else does, but it is still good to know.
