Camangi Mangrove 7 – A New Name for ViewSonic ViewPad 7x

by Blake on October 15, 2011

We’ve patiently waited for the release of ViewSonic ViewPad 7x, only to learn that it will be released first in Japan under a different name. This is not necessarily bad news as we will get used to the Camangi Mangrove 7 title pretty fast, but more important is what has been changed besides the name. It will be powered by a Nvidia Tegra 2 processors which should be more than enough to make the first seven-inch Honeycomb tablet run smoothly. You must be aware that the Android 3.0 will suffer slight modifications, and ViewSonic’s own software will be added.

Camangi Mangrove 7The 3D desktop is an addition that is supposed to provide the Camangi Mangrove 7 with the edge over the other tablets, in an industry where competition is fierce. Apple’s iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 might not be in the same league as far as size is concerned, but they are still formidable opponents. That’s why it comes as a relief to learn that while the 3D mode is active, the widgets will run in the background and remain responsive. It remains to be seen how the Android fans will react to this perk, but one thing is sure and that’s that the easy to pick up mechanics will appeal to a wide audience.

The touchscreen sports a 1024×600 resolution and it is very responsive, but all the 3D buzz can prove to be a battery killer. Overall it should hold its ground without needing a recharge for at least 7 hours and much more can be extracted, if the tablet remains in standby. With HP’s latest release being criticized for the lack of cameras, it’s refreshing to hear that the detractors won’t be able to do the same with the Camangi Mangrove 7. It sports both a front and rear facing camera and the design is solid and elegant, so this should be a slick tablet, that you’ll love holding in your hands.
