HTC is continuing its struggles for domination in a market where Apple and Samsung still reign supreme, and they are even willing to make the compromises required, to succeed. The first thing that comes in mind is the HTC Salsa’s makeover, and the replacing of the dedicated Facebook button with a Weibo one. It is pretty surprising to see that the much advertised Facebook phone, will give up its very essence, but there are enough financial reasons to justify the trade. Weibo is a fast-growing network with huge potential, and it already has around 150 million users, so HTC tries to get a slice of this appetizing cake.
While the rest of its features remains unchanged and HTC Salsa, is the same reliable phone that we were promised a few months ago, not the same can be said about the other Facebook phone. HTC Status was presented two weeks ago as the best smartphone for the ones who love social networks and plan on spending a lot of time online writing messages. That’s why the portrait QWERTY keyboard is the Status’ best selling point and will help us forget about the shortcomings of the tiny 2.6 inch display.
The problem is that the typing experience is anything but pleasant, and the keyboard has nothing to do with it. In fact, the QWERTY keyboard is outstanding and HTC has every reason to be proud of it, just like they have all the reasons to fix the software behind it. Awkward words suggestions and terrible predictions make each written message problematic, and you need to double check all the time. The Facebook integration is very good though and the overall quality of the HTC Sense is above average, with a speedy processor, plentiful RAM and many gadgets that will enhance the user experience.
