Acer kept its promise and although Iconia Tab A100 was released a bit later than expected, it is here to stay. Running on Android 3.2, it is the first tablet using this operating system and the best thing is that Acer didn’t insist on leaving its mark. Sometimes it is better to stick to the basics and those who complain about HTC’s policy of pushing Sense on all their devices, will appreciate Acer’s take on this problem. They couldn’t help but implement the SocialJogger, which is, in fact, a good addition for those who need a social network aggregator.
As we have expected, Iconia Tab A100 is powered by a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and it runs just as well as other Honeycomb tablets. While the performance is way above the average, the accelerometer is too sensitive and the battery life is simply dismal. With less than 5 hours between recharges, the battery is not to be trusted as it gives less than half of what the competition has to offer. Those who intend to use it a lot to navigate the internet, shouldn’t stray too long from home, or carry a charging cable on them all the time.
Viewing angles are generally good, but from certain points of view, the contrast will make watching any video, a chore. The display itself is just fine, with a 1024 x 600 resolution for the 7-inch screen, with bright colors and good contrast. A five megapixel rear-facing camera will capture videos and pictures better than you’d expect, although tablets usually come short when it comes to shooting capabilities. If you are looking for an inexpensive tablet that runs the latest Android, then Acer’s Iconia Tab A100 might be an answer and for as little as $330, you can take it home now.
