HTC EVO 3D promises to be an upgrade for the EVO 4G and at the same time immerse us in the fantastic world of 3D, but there is still work to be done. It looks very similar to the EVO 4G and for the untrained eye, it will be difficult to notice the differences right away. Everything becomes crystal clear when you flip the smartphone and discovers the amazing pod with two five megapixels cameras. These will allow you to snap pictures in both 2D and 3D and all it takes is a press of a button to decide between the two formats.
One thing that you should be aware of, is that while the HTC EVO 3D supports playback up to 1080p it will only capture videos in 720p quality. This applies to both the 2D and 3D versions and while the actual recording of videos is silky smooth, the 3D effects are a bit blurry and the colors are not too bright and clear. With the technology being new, it is somehow easier to accept the shortcomings, but it becomes a problem for a phone who places a lot of emphasis on this element. This being said, HTC makes a bold move into uncharted territories, and we should look forward to future releases.
For the time being, the EVO 3D is a reasonable smartphone, powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, has 1GB of RAM, which is an upgrade from the 768MB and runs Android 2.3.3. The Gingerbread has been altered to accommodate the Sense 3.0, but this is something the HTC fans and users have accepted by now as a rule. With the twin cameras tempting you to take pictures and record movies in 3D, it is important to remember that the battery life is not too impressive and recharge your device often.
