HTC Wildfire S – Spreading Like Wildfire

by Blake on October 2, 2011

With HTC releasing its flagship smartphone not so long ago, it was about time to present the public with a more affordable alternative. Continuing the good tradition of upgrading the former models, they came up with the HTC Wildfire S, which is supposed to conquer the budget market. We have to say that this is a giant leap forward if compared with the original Wildfire and the main upgrades revolve around a faster processor, better camera and outstanding voice clarity. On the flip side, the display is still behind what the competition has to offer and being so glossy, will act more like a mirror when exposed to direct sunlight.

The critics will hurry to point out that the 600MHz processor, while better than the predecessor, is still way too slow and this has a deterring effect on those who love compact phones. The truth is that a slightly faster CPU would appeal to a broader audience. The battery life is not notable, and if you use the HTC Wildfire S intensely, you will drain it in less than a day.

In terms of software, the fact that it runs on Android 2.3.3 is excellent news that should make it the first choice for those who are looking for a budget phone. As with all HTC products though, it comes with Sense 2.1which acts like a barrier for the fans of Google applications. If you are among those who strongly oppose this trend of launching smartphones that are increasingly big, just to support a large display, you will find a worthy alternative in the HTC Wildfire S and for a more than reasonable price.
