Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid – Too Little, Too Late

by Blake on November 3, 2011

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is going to be released in a not so distant future and if the name is not saying anything to you, there is no reason to be ashamed, because few people have such an amazing memory. Announced almost two years ago and presented in the first months of 2010, this project seemed to slip into oblivion, and even the most dedicated Lenovo fans forgot about him. The hype is all but gone, still the features of this half breed are exciting enough to make us look forward to its release.

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid When will this happen is still as mystery but by arriving at FCC, it proves that the desire to emerge victorious one day is still very much alive. Basically, the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is a tablet that can work just as well as a detachable multitouch display for a laptop. When the concept was first presented to the audience, it was a very promising and innovative, but one year ago, the iPad 2, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and other amazing tablets were only on the drawing board. Unfortunately, it seems that Lenovo’s effort is too little too late, but in case we’ll witness the actual release of the IdeaPad U1 Hybrid, it would be nice to know a little more about it.

When incorporated in the laptop, it will use the Intel CULV processor and run on Windows 7, while as a tablet, it uses the Skylight OS and a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. In both cases, the hybrid performs decently and speed is not going to be a problem, but the quality of the display and the viewing angles will. In a world were super AMOLED screens and qHD resolutions, the slate doesn’t stand a chance and unless something happens before the uncertain release date, it will never reach its full potential.
