Motorola Triumph – Living up to its Name

by Blake on December 13, 2011

When you launch a smartphone with such an aggressive name as Triumph, you have to make sure that it will dominate the competition and live up to its name. One way would be to come up with a revolutionary device that will outstrip the rivals in every imaginable way and establish a strong position at the very top of the rankings. Easier said than done, especially these days when the big players are releasing more powerful devices each month. The other method would be to focus your attention on that particular competition that you can beat and try to consolidate your position in that specific segment.

Motorola Triumph Motorola Triumph chose the latter, and it brilliantly succeeds in delivering a competitive Froyo phone, sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and a 4.1 inch display. The problem is that due to the insufficient RAM, only 512, it will have a hard time keeping up the fast pace all the time. As far as the touchscreen is concerned, the 800 x 480 resolution and responsiveness make it just as good as any of the rivals it set to defeat. The images are crisp, and you will enjoy viewing the 720p videos captured with the 5 megapixels camera.

Speaking of which, the camera needs the perfect conditions to deliver the best possible pictures and in the absence of adequate light or under direct sunlight, the images are less than impressive. The fact that it runs on Froyo instead of Gingerbread is a downside that some people will find difficult to accept, but Triumph aims at conquering a niche, rather than pleasing a wide audience. Given the fact you can own it for as little as $300 with no strings attached and no contract to bind you for many years, this can be a success for Motorola.
