With so many Androids running smartphones, Apple is forced to push the release date of the iPhone 5 closer to autumn, so they won’t miss the holidays. This is arguably the best period to boost the sales, and if they don’t want to miss the feeding frenzy, the new release should come at least a month before that. Recent rumors state that iPhone 5 will hit the stores in late fall, but there are some who expect it as soon as September. It remains to be seen whether Apple will beat the deadline with two months, or they’ll barely make it on time, but this brings up another question.
What will happen with the iPhone 3GS and Apples flagship iPhone 4 is equally interesting to find out, because everyone expects a steep decrease in the prices. The most optimistic scenarios involve the 3GS to be available for as little as $300 and even for free, if you are willing to sign up a two-year contract. It is something that will most likely appeal to the ones who always dreamt about owning an iPhone but were unable to afford one. A smartphone manufactured by Apple that you receive for free is an amazing deal, even if there are two newer releases available.
The iPhone 4 should become more affordable as well, but the ones who are on a very fixed income will probably prefer the previous version. This is a fair assumption, given the fact that Apple fans who have the cash, will spend something more for the latest release and will not bother themselves with slightly outdated models. Unfortunately, the manufacturers will choose not to support the iPhone 3GS with new software to be compatible with iOS 5 and will channel all their energy on making the iPhone 4 the budget smartphone, but definitely not free.
