Samsung Galaxy S 2 – An Elusive Droid

by Blake on October 10, 2011

There have been many rumors about the release of a new Droid, but Motorola kept to itself, and so far we haven’t got any concrete information on this matter. Following Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobile, the stories reemerged and the latest news seemed to confirm that Droid Bionic is lurking in the dark, waiting to attack the flagship of the Android market. With the iPhone 5’s release being imminent, everyone was focused on how Apple’s gadget will fare against Samsung Galaxy S 2, and it seemed that there was no room for a third contender.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 If the rumors proved accurate and the Droid Bionic, also known as Droid HD is as powerful as we’ve heard, then the race for the best Android running smartphone can begin. In terms of design, it will look similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S 2, just as thin and light, but with a bigger display, of 4.5 inches. The name suggests that it will be a qHD screen or one sporting a 1280×720 resolution, which should deliver crisp images and vibrant colors. With an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, capable of shooting in 1080p, it will satisfy even the most enthusiastic photographs, who rely on their smartphone for video captures.

What is inside is not very clear yet, but if we are to believe the buzz, it will run on the latest Gingerbread, powered by a 1Ghz dual-core processor and 768 MB of RAM. Those who own a Galaxy S 2 will find many resemblances with their gadget and the ones who are considering buying one, might wait until Motorola’s Droid finally emerges. If they succeed in undercutting Samsung by a couple of dollars, the Droid can be a huge success and a worthy contender this Fall, even though all the big players have announced impressive products.
