The HTC Status

Those of you who remember the HTC Cha Cha will be a little upset knowing that its announced release later will never take place, but the sadness will only last for a second. The good news is that it will hit the stores later this year, just in time for the holiday season, and it will be known as the HTC Status. For AT&T this release will be a cause of celebration as well, as it will be their first Android 2.3 smartphone.

HTC_statusThe display will be a puny 2.6 inch with a resolution of only 480 x 320 and the viewing angles are far from impressive, but the touchscreen is responsive. The petite size will be compensated by the excellent QWERTY portrait-style keyboard, whose layout will help you avoid any typos and speed up the message writing. While the SMS is not as popular as they used to be, with so many other alternatives, they’re still broadly used and having them written faster is a bonus.

Furthermore, the keyboard will also facilitate the internet navigation, as writing addresses is easier thanks to the introducing of the specialized “.com” key.
Gingerbread is still the new kid on the block, but it has been around for quite a while and for the AT&T, this premiere was expected for too long. It’s good to have it though and while the inherent problems and limitations posed by the Sense are having a deterring effect on prospective customers, it is still a step into the right direction.

The performance should meet the expectations of most users, and it’s only natural to be like this, since it has the same technical features as the ChaCha, including the much cherished Facebook button. The HTC Status is not going to compete with The Galaxy S 2 and the iPhone 4, but it will be a tough contender for other smartphones using the QWERTY portrait-style keyboard.
