If you are among the ones who anxiously expected the release date for the new Droid X2 to be revealed, you will probably rejoice hearing the news. Motorola and Verizon decided that the suspense should end now, with the new device hitting the stores on May 26th. The ones who can’t wait to get their hand on the Droid X2 have already pre-ordered it at prices that start from $199 with a two-year customer agreement.
The hype around this smartphone is considerable, but this is mainly due to the fact it was postponed several times, and prospective customers were kept wired. If we look at the technical spreadsheet, the facts are less than impressive and the critics can even argue that it is a bit outdated. One of the things that can be served as a good example is the operating system which is Android 2.2, in an age when Gingerbread is living its last days. Motorola promised that the Droid will benefit of an upgrade very soon, but unless they hurry, the Ice Cream sandwich will be already upon us.
The processor is not the fastest out there, but the fact that it is a 1GHz dual-core makes it competitive and won’t have a deterring effect on users. If the pictures don’t lie, and we have no reasons to believe they do, the Droid X2 will score high in terms of visual appeal, with a 4.3-inch display, which is both scratch resistant and anti-reflective. One thing that is definitely not outdated even if it took a lot of time since the smartphone was supposed to hit the stores, is the 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording ability. Last but no least the Droid X2 will allow you to share the 3G connection, using the Mobile Hotspot.
